Dark Sugars Ice Creams: Reviews & Ratings

An ice cream paradise in Greenwich – over 40 flavours, vibrant décor, and creamy scoops that taste as good as they look. We visited Dark Sugars Ice Cream straight after dinner at The Golden Chippy for a sweet treat on the way home, and it was a brilliant choice. I ordered a three-scoop tub with Cherry Cheesecake, Rum & Raisin, and a Jammie Dodger flavour that was just as indulgent as it sounds. Every scoop was rich, creamy, and packed with authentic flavour – nothing artificial, just pure, quality ice cream. Presentation was simple but appealing, and portion sizes were generous for the price (around £7.99 for three scoops). The shop itself is bright, colourful, and full of energy, with décor that perfectly matches the vibe of an artisan ice cream spot. The variety is what stood out most – easily 40–60 flavours of ice cream and sorbet, meaning there’s something for everyone and plenty of reason to return. Service was fast and friendly, making the experience even sweeter. If you’re near Greenwich and looking for quality ice cream with incredible choice, this is absolutely worth the stop. #GreenwichEats #LondonIceCream #DarkSugarsDelight

Great ice cream shop with lots of interesting flavours to choose from. It is, however, a bit on the expensive side — two singles and one double cost £16. Unfortunately, I had an issue with the toilet: there was no lock, the tap was broken, and I couldn’t use the water — which I only discovered after putting soap all over my hands. A very unpleasant experience. To be honest, for these prices, the facilities should be in much better condition.

Dark Sugars Ice Creams, nestled in the heart of Greenwich at 21 Nelson Road, is a vibrant sanctuary for ice cream lovers and chocolate enthusiasts alike. Upon entering, you’re greeted by a lively atmosphere, alive with colour and the infectious energy of a well-curated artisan spot. The shop’s vast selection—ranging from over 40 thoughtfully crafted ice cream flavours to rich, decadent hot chocolates—ensures that every visit offers a new adventure in taste.

The highlight here is undoubtedly the ice cream. The coconut ice cream stands out with its creamy, tropical embrace, perfectly balanced to evoke pure indulgence without overwhelming the palate. For those craving complexity, the liquid sea salted caramel delivers a luscious harmony of sweet and savoury, melting seamlessly with every bite. Pistachio and green tea ice creams add an elegant, slightly nutty and earthy dimension, appealing to those seeking a refined flavour profile. Meanwhile, their chocolate creations—rich, silky, and intense—are a divine tribute to cocoa, showcasing the brand’s deep commitment to quality.

One cannot talk about Dark Sugars without mentioning their intriguing array of chocolate treats and hot chocolates. Varieties like hazelnut hot chocolate and ginger hot chocolate add warmth and spice, perfect for London’s cooler days. The option to enhance your drink with chocolate shavings or hot fudge is a brilliant touch for true chocolate lovers craving that extra layer of indulgence.

What impressed me most beyond the flavours was the genuine craft behind each scoop, reflected in the authentic taste and creamy texture. Malachi Carvalho-Williams aptly described it as “an ice cream paradise,” and I echo this sentiment wholly. Each serving feels generous and the quality unmistakable—no artificial undertones, just pure, honest ingredients. The synergy of flavours like rum & raisin, cherry cheesecake, and the playful jammie dodger reflects a thoughtful menu that caters to both classic preferences and adventurous palates.

Service here is swift, friendly, and seamlessly enhances the overall experience. The interior’s vibrant décor and curated soundtrack create a welcoming backdrop that invites you to linger and savour every bite. While some customers have noted the premium pricing and facility maintenance as areas of improvement, the overall experience remains one of joyful indulgence in Greenwich’s culinary landscape.

In summary, Dark Sugars Ice Creams is not simply an ice cream shop; it is a celebration of craftsmanship and flavour diversity. Whether you are exploring creamy pistachio, earthy matcha-infused gelato, or warming yourself with a spicy ginger hot chocolate, this is a destination that promises delight in every scoop and sip.
